Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Finish your high school with an emphasis on science subjects. Attend a reputable university and maintain high grades. Complete at least 1 year of study in biology, physics and English and 2 years of chemistry.
Step2
Take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) which is a prerequisite multiple choice examination that every student has to clear before applying to medical school. Take the test only when you are ready to apply to medical schools as MCAT scores are valid up to three years.
Step3
Contact medical schools. Inquire about specific entry requirements and criteria. Request application forms. The American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) has an online application feature.
Step4
Write a professional personal statement that shows your interest and desire to be a medical student at that particular institution. The medical schools may ask you to write more than one statement on different specialties. Make every effort to write clear and relevant essays.
Step5
Send your complete application before the month of August, which is the standard deadline of every medical school. Include your MCAT scores, essay and any other required documentation. Follow up on your application by contacting the admission department. If your application gets accepted, the school will call to schedule an interview.
Step6
Finance your medical school education by contacting the school's financial aid department and searching for scholarships. Fill out the necessary application forms and review the various funding options.
