Step 1
Start with furniture. Choose furniture that won't just fit your boy for a few years; pick lasting furniture that will grow with him. Purchasing quality, sturdy furniture and can handle a potentially rough-and-tumble boy will be a wise investment. Even decorators on a budget can find great pieces at garage sales and flea markets. A fresh coat of paint can always liven up a set of furniture that is slightly used.
-
Step 2
Place furniture on casters. It will make it easy to move the bed around the room to create a new arrangement of space. It will also adapt to the needs of your child's age without investing in new pieces.
-
Step 3
Get as much as you can off his bedroom floor in order to maximize playing space. Mount shelving from the walls and create space off the floor for displaying items such as trophies, books, hobby projects, collections, and sports gear.
-
Step 4
Choose a theme to decorate your little boy's room in. You can easily choose something he'll love--if he doesn't have any ideas of his own--by choosing your little guy's special interest, favorite sport, favorite animal, favorite storybook character, or favorite color.
-
Step 5
Create adequate playing space. Every little boy's room should have an area dedicated to play time. Clear the floor, put down a cushy faux fur rug, and your child will be entertained for hours.

Step 6
Personalize it. Make it his own. Place his name on the wall in large wooden letters--maybe even with pegs to hang his jackets and hats. Label bins for toys with his name, and object words that he can learn as well. Provide interactive areas for him, such as a poster or sign that allows you to watch him grow by measuring his height.
