If you enjoy erotic fiction, you can even pen your own sex story for a chance to share your enjoyment of eroticism, see your work published and maybe even earn a little extra money on the side. Both online and print publishers are constantly looking for new sex stories to add to their collections.

Craft Your Own Sex Story

Step1
Perform a little field research into the varying topics and categories of sex stories that people read. General categories include broad entries like first-time sex stories, lesbian sex stories, man-on-man sex stories and younger woman/older man sex stories. People also look to satisfy more specific kinks with specialized topics like domination-submission sex stories, incest stories, bondage stories and a variety of other racy subjects.
Step2
Draw on your own personal sexual experience when deciding what type of story to write. The authenticity of the details makes all the difference between a good, engaging sex story and a mediocre one. If you import some details of your own actual sex encounters, you'll find it easier to elevate your material to a higher level.
Step3
Delve into your own fantasies if you're uncomfortable for one reason or another with fictionalizing your own experiences or if you just consider your own sex life not worth writing about! You can use the writing process to explore the breadth of your own sexual fantasies, and attain a deeper understanding of your sexuality while helping other people enjoy theirs.
Step4
Create characters for your story, keeping in mind general principles of good storytelling, as well as techniques that will make your story more believable and arousing. It helps create more engagement when your characters experience conflict, either within themselves or in their external lives, particularly if they're going to submit to a sexual experience they've been resisting.
Step5
Write a first draft of your story. Let yourself go, and feel free to explore whatever might come to your mind. Don't worry about the telling of the story at this stage, but simply get the content down on the page.
Step6
Rewrite and edit your story, focusing on making the telling of the events as engaging as possible. Tantalize the reader by offering just a taste, but holding the rest back until the end--kind of like what readers experience in a good real-life sexual encounter.

Tips & Warnings

  • There's an old adage that says the best writers are the ones who read the most. If you want to write a sex story, an excellent way to get a sense of the craft is to read as many erotic stories, in as many different categories, as you can find.
  • Be careful about publishers who offer you no contract or payment but still demand the publishing rights to your story. If you are not receiving financial compensation for your work, you should, at the very least, retain the right to sell it to a paying buyer.
