Things You'll Need:
- Hair net
- Wig cap
- Plastic bag
- Bobby pins
-
Step 1
Decide whether you are going for a serious impersonation of Elvis or if you want to lampoon the looks of this famous rocker.
-
Step 2
Find a short, cropped black wig with a finger-curl bang to achieve the look of Elvis in his younger years.
-
Step 3
Look for a more bouffant-style black wig with Elvis's signature curl to capture of the look of the King as he appeared in Vegas in the later years of his career.
-
Step 4
Get a human-hair wig if you plan to style it to match the look of Elvis. Most novelty wigs will be made of extruded plastic or nylon hair, making them difficult to set to a style other than the one in which they were originally set.
-
Step 5
Talk to a make-up artist with experience working in latex if you would like your Elvis wig to have a more sculpted look. She should be able to cast a thick latex-and-foam headpiece, which can be painted a glossy black to match Elvis's signature locks.
-
Step 1
Get a hair net and bobby pins.
-
Step 2
Set longer hair in pin curls spaced evenly throughout your scalp. Short hair may only require a quick treatment with hair spray to help manage any stray pieces.
-
Step 3
Slip the hair net over your existing hair and secure with pins.
-
Step 4
Place your Elvis wig on your head, starting at the front near your forehead and gently easing it onto the back of your scalp.
-
Step 5
Use a mirror to ensure that it is centered on your head and that the side burns of your wig are correctly placed directly in front of your ears.
-
Step 6
Insert a couple of bobby pins into the wig cap to secure it to your head. You can test the security of your Elvis wig by swaying your hips enthusiastically to one of Elvis's hit songs.
