Choose a Name for Your Neopet
-
1
Browse baby names online. On most baby name sites, you can sort by meaning, derivation, gender and initial. If you don't like a name exactly as it appears (or if it is already taken on Neopets), you may still be inspired to create a name of your own.
-
2
Consider names from your favorite books, movies, sports teams, mythology, nature, music or anything else you enjoy. Neopet names don't have to be the same as people names and can reflect your interests.

3
Check the availability of a name you want before you ever get to the "Create a Neopet" screen. There is a "Search Neopets" search engine that you can access from almost any page on the Neopets website (see Resources below). Enter the name you want to give your pet. If you get no hits, you'll know the name is most likely available.
-
4
Create your new Neopet. From the Neopets home page, hover over "My Account" and scroll down to "Create a Neopet." After you select a species and color, you will have the opportunity to enter a name or check the availability of the name you want.
-
5
Modify the name you want if your first choice is not available. You can select one of the variations suggested by Neopets or add a letter, number or underscore to see if you can form a unique name without changing the name you want too much.

Tips & Warnings
If you cannot get the exact name you want for your Neopet, you can use a randomizer to suggest a name for you. One common option is to add numbers after a name. You might use your birthday or a lucky number instead of the random numbers selected by Neopets to make the name seem more personal.
Make sure that your account password is in no way similar to the name you select for your Neopet. Similarities make it too easy for people to hack your account.
Your account can be frozen if you make a name that other users find offensive. Avoid any content that could be construed as crude or derogatory.
There are over 200 million Neopets, and names cannot be repeated. You can expect your first choice of names to be taken, so you'll have to be creative to come up with something new and special.
