You don't have to be a graphics genius to create your own love emoticon. All you need is a graphics program that has the ability to create circles and ellipses, as well as color in the shapes. Of course, you will also need to know the basics of your software.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Graphics software such as Paint
  • Basic knowledge of graphics software

Use Simple Shapes to Make a Love Emoticon

Step1
Sketch the emoticon on paper first so you have a guide on what to draw. For example, you could use a heart or a smiley face with kissing lips to show love.
Step2
Make a new file that is about 30 by 30 pixels.
Step3
Choses the freehand pencil tool or the circle tool and draw a circle. Select a color to make the face, such as the bright yellow often seen on smiley faces, and then fill in the circle.
Step4
Choose a color to create facial features with. Most emoticons are yellow with black eyes, noses and mouths. Select the oval or circle option to draw in the eyes and nose and a curve for the mouth. You could draw hearts instead of facial features to symbolize love.
Step5
Draw in any other features you want as you make the love emoticon. Perhaps you want to draw simple stick arms holding a heart. You could draw a small red circle with a green line to create a flower. Have your emoticon hold it with its stick figure arms. Add hair, ears, a mustache, feet, or whatever you want: simple shapes go a long way. You don't have to be a talented artist.
Step6
Keep your image so you can use it. Save it in gif format, optimized for the Web.

Use Other Symbols of Love

Step1
Remember that there are other symbols of love besides kisses and roses. Your love emoticon could be an animated beating heart or a heart with Cupid's arrow through it. Another idea for a love emoticon is a heart that blinks with sentiments such as "Be Mine."
Step2
Add different colors and symbols to your emoticons. Include shades of red, white, pink and purple. Incorporate other love signs such as Valentine's day cards, lip prints, Cupids, doves or lovebirds and wedding rings. Candles, chocolate or anything that evokes a sense of romance are other ideas for your love emoticons.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use software that allows you to create a transparent background if you intend to use the smiley on a colored background. Otherwise your emoticon's background will be white.
