69, also known by its French name "soixante-neuf," is a sexual position wherein two people arrange themselves so that they are able simultaneously to give oral pleasure to one another. There are at least 3 physical arrangements that make various kinds of oral-genital contact possible. Each of these arrangements suggests the appearance of the numerals 6 and 9 juxtaposed, hence the derivation of the name for this practice.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Prepare to Get Into a 69 Position

  1. Step 1

Take a shower or a bath, separately or together, to assure yourselves that you are clean and attractive before you begin lovemaking. Without good hygiene, oral sexual contact is likely to be an unpleasant experience.

  2. Step 2

Undress, or dress, to the point and in the fashion that you feel will best lead to lovemaking.

  3. Step 3

Prepare for lovemaking with some initial expressions of affection, stimulation and exploration. Once you assume the 69 position you are probably committing yourselves to some very intimate behavior, so 69 sometimes requires its own foreplay even while it may serve as foreplay for other events.

  4. Get Into a 69 Position While Lying Beside Your Partner

  5. Step 1

Lie down together on the bed or another comfortable surface facing one another in a head-to-toe arrangement.

  6. Step 2

Open your legs to allow your partner access to your ****oris and vagina or to your penis and testicles.

  7. Step 3

Hold one another by the hips, pelvis or buttocks and draw your faces toward each other's genitals. You are now physically ready for oral-genital lovemaking.

  8. Get Into a 69 Position Above or Below Your Partner

  9. Step 1

Approach your reclining sexual partner from above. Straddle your partner face down with your feet on either side of his or her head. It is generally comfortable to begin with your genitals above the other's chest while each of you continues orienting yourself.

  10. Step 2

Lower your genitals toward the face of your partner as you seek out your partner's genitals with your mouth and begin to kiss, lick or suck.

  11. Get Into a 69 Position With One Partner Standing

  12. Step 1

Stand firmly on a secure surface. This practice requires strength and trust, if not a spotter. The larger and stronger of the partners should be the one who stands.

  13. Step 2

Lift your partner, upside down, until her ****oris and vagina are near your mouth. At that point her mouth should be near your genitals, and she may wish to use her arms to brace herself on your thighs or buttocks or wrap her legs around your neck and shoulders as she fellates you.

Tips & Warnings
  • Most forms of sexual contact that present themselves to a couple arranged in 69 position involve exchange of bodily fluids. Partners should use caution to avoid sexually transmitted diseases.
  • In addition to accommodating fellatio and cunnilingus, the 69 position opens partners up to oral sexual contact involving the anus. While partners may find this practice pleasurable, a partner giving oral-anal pleasure should use an anti-bacterial mouthwash afterward and should avoid oral contact with the genitals immediately after oral-anal contact.
