Things You'll Need:
- Bluetooth-enabled Mac
- Bluetooth device to connect

Step 1
Check to see if your Mac is set up with Bluetooth. From the Apple menu, click "System Preferences." You should see a Bluetooth icon. If you do not, your Mac does not have Bluetooth.

Enable Bluetooth. Under "System Preferences" click the Bluetooth icon and make sure you see "Bluetooth: On" under the "Settings" tab. If it's not turned on, click "Turn Bluetooth On."

Go to the menu bar and click the Bluetooth icon, then click "Bluetooth Preferences."

Click the "Devices" tab and "Pair New Device."

Click on the device you want to set up to pair with your Mac. If it is not listed, make sure the device is turned on and in pairing mode. Then click "Search Again" in the "Bluetooth Device" dialog box.

Click on "Pair."

Enter a PIN number into the box that pops up. Sometimes you will choose your own PIN and other times the manufacturer will supply one for you to use. Click "OK" and the device should be listed in the "Devices" tab under "Bluetooth Preferences."

Add a USB adapter to your Mac if it did not come with Bluetooth. You must be running OS X 10.2 or higher. To do this, boot up your Mac and connect the adapter to a USB port on your computer.

Look for the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar. Click it and another menu will appear.

Select "Open Bluetooth Preferences."

Click the "Settings" tab and check "Discoverable." This will let Bluetooth devices in range find your Mac. Choose whether you want to require authentication to connect devices.

Choose whether you want the Setup Assistant to pop up if you don't have an input device connected and then close the window. You now have Bluetooth set up on your Mac.
