How to Attend the U.S. Open Golf Event

One of professional golf's four annual "major" tournaments, the U.S. Open is played each year on Father's Day at varying locales within the United States. The U.S. Open is considered one of golf's highest-stakes events, with millions of dollars in prize money available, including a multi-million dollar winner's share.

Attend the U.S. Open Golf Event

1. Find out where this year's event is being held on the official website of the U.S. Open (see Resources below). Venues are selected years in advance, and tickets for a future event frequently go on sale well ahead of time.
2. Click on the links provided with each year's U.S. Open venue information to be redirected to a page with ticketing information.
3. Follow the directions given to fill out an application for a random ticket drawing. The United States Golf Association, which puts on the U.S. Open, conducts a lottery to determine who will be given the first crack at tickets.
4. Wait for notification as to the results of the random ticket drawing. If you are a winner, you will receive further information on your ticketing options. Attend the event on the days of your choice by buying tickets according to your preference.
5. Bear in mind that active United States Golf Association members have a separate ticket drawing conducted, which is held prior to the one for the general public. Application deadlines are different (and earlier) for USGA members, and if you want the best chance at winning a ticket drawing, you should consider signing up for membership at the USGA website (see Resources below).
6. Seek alternative sources for tickets if you were not successful in a lottery drawing but still wish to attend. You might have some luck on an online auction site or by browsing through online and print classified ads. You might try posting on golf fan forums if you're having a hard time finding what you're looking for.
7. Reserve your hotel space early. Nearby accommodations will really begin to fill up as the U.S. Open nears. Make any additional travel arrangements you need to in order to attend the tournament.
