The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) sponsors a wide variety of amateur and semi-pro tournaments across the region. Tournaments are held year-round at a wide variety of locales throughout Southern California, and are open to all eligible participants.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Golf equipment
  • Participation eligibility

Participate in an SCGA Tournament

Step1
Join a member club, or form your own. If you form your own, you will have to register it with the SCGA. To find a member club, call the country clubs in your area and ask if they are SCGA members.
Step2
Inquire with SCGA member clubs in your area if you're interested in attending events as a spectator rather than as a participant. Each individual club that hosts events sets its own ticketing policies.
Step3
Pay all membership fees due to the Southern California Golf Association. Remember that while the SCGA is officially an amateur organization, its alumni include several members who have gone on to tour in pro tournaments.
Step4
Choose a tournament to attend, either as an individual player or as part of a group. There are a large number of SCGA-sponsored tournaments held every year and you can link to their amateur and pro tour events on the "Calendar" page of the official SCGA website (see Resources below).
Step5
Contact the hosting country club if you have any further questions about tournament rules and regulations or entry requirements.
Step6
Register to participate in a tournament for which you're eligible by following the entry procedures outlined by the host venue. Again, you should contact the hosting country club for event-specific information.
Step7
Confirm your entry in the tournament a week or so in advance of the tee-off. It is particularly important to double-check that you're listed in the field of participants if you need to do any traveling to reach the venue.
Step8
Attend the tournament of your choice, making sure to follow the outlined tournament rules. Most SCGA tournaments adhere to standard United States Golf Association (USGA) rules, though there may be individual variations in place from tournament to tournament.

Tips & Warnings

  • Join the Southern California Golf Association by gaining membership at one of their more than 1,200 member golf clubs. You will have to pay your country club dues in addition to SCGA's modest annual membership fee.
  • The event formerly known as the Southern California Pro Tour, which was a developmental semi-pro tournament, no longer exists in that form. The SCGA is the primary body responsible for organized golf in Southern California.
