Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
Watch an AGSA Tournament
Step1
Expect the AGSA to host about a half-dozen tournaments all over the United States during its season. Some international events are even held at golf courses in Europe and other exotic destinations.
Step2
Call AGSA for the most up-to-date information on its tour schedule. The phone number, which is based in Massachusetts, is (617) 395-8522. You can also find scheduling information online.
Step3
Purchase available tickets for the event you want to watch as a spectator. Tickets may be limited, when they're offered at all, since the tournament is largely intended for amateur participation rather than attendance.
Take Part in ASGA Tour Events
Step1
Learn the membership requirements for the American Seniors Golf Association. You will need to fill out a membership application, which will be considered by ASGA's current membership. In order to apply, you must be at least 53 years old (though you will not be eligible for tournament play until you are at least 55).
Step2
Get invited to join ASGA when a current member decides to sponsor your application. Of course, you can help your cause by doing some networking to ingratiate yourself to the membership. Remember that the current member who endorses your application is also charged with the responsibility of ensuring that you fulfill your membership obligations.
Step3
Pay your dues once you have been approved for membership.
Step4
Obtain a copy of the current season's tournament schedule. This will be readily available on the ASGA website and should be automatically sent to all members (see Resources below).
Step5
Reserve early to get a space in the tournament(s) you want to participate in. Space is usually limited, and there may be restrictions on players who have more than a single-digit handicap. You should check the tournament's official homepage, accessible through the ASGA's "Tournament" page.
Step6
Familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations of the tournament, which will be supplied to you when your spot in the event is confirmed. Make sure to abide by them at all times during tournament play, or you may risk having your ASGA membership revoked, which will disqualify you from future participation.
Step7
Attend the ASGA tour events of your choice, making sure to make travel plans well in advance. Remember, too, that socializing is a large part of ASGA membership. There are usually scheduled social events following tournaments that you should leave yourself time to attend.
