How to Electronically File Tax Returns With TaxCut Software

There are two major points to consider as part of the electronic-filing process. First, after you have completed one or both of your federal and state tax returns, TaxCut allows you to file them electronically with the IRS and your state tax agency. Second, you may choose to receive any anticipated refund either as a check or as a direct deposit to your bank account.

    File Electronic Tax Returns With TaxCut Software

  1. Step 1

    Purchase a TaxCut product that includes the fee for e-filing both federal and state tax returns. This product is available in the box and by download.

  2. Step 2

    Complete your state return before you file your federal return, making sure that your itemized deductions will reflect your state tax payments.

  3. Step 3

    Click on "File" at the top of your TaxCut software screen. This should be done after you have used the program to complete your federal and state tax returns.

  4. Step 4

    Select "Electronic Filing" from the menu that appears on your screen. You may use the next screen to file your tax return electronically or to file for an extension of the due date for your returns.

  5. Step 5

    Check each box under "Electronic Filing" that is appropriate for the returns you are ready to file electronically, and click on the "Go" button.

  6. Step 6

    Complete any "To Do" items that appear on the TaxCut screen as prerequisites for electronic filing.

  7. Step 7

    File your taxes electronically by clicking on "File Your Return."

  8. Step 8

    Use the same "Electronic Filing" checklist to check on the status of your return after it is filed.

  9. Step 9

    Follow the prompts that appear on your screen in order to request direct deposit of any tax refund that may be due to you.

  10. Step 10

    Print and keep a paper copy of your complete tax return and the associated worksheets after you have filed them electronically. This will ensure that you always have access to these documents, regardless of the status of your software or your computer.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are a taxpayer who is 50 or under, with an adjusted-gross income of $52,000 or less, you can access TaxCut's Free File product.
  • Be sure to complete your state return before you file your federal return, so that your federal return's itemized deductions will reflect your state-tax payments.
