Customer relationship management (CRM) software is used to evaluate and store data about a company's customer base, and improve and monitor customer service. A highly-skilled CRM software consultant will be able to assess a company's customer service needs, understand the unique qualities of their customer base and recommend the right software to improve that company's relationship with their customers.

Hire a CRM Software Consultant

Step1
Determine which part of the "CRM Ecosystem" your software will need to support. Operational CRM is related to the automation of a certain company in terms of its customer service. Collaborative CRM involves the ability of the customer to receive help from a company without involving company sales representatives. Analytical CRM involves the maintenance of the customer database.
Step2
Stress customer privacy and data security with any CRM software package that is presented to you by a consultant. Many CRM programs have failed over the years, mostly because these two points were not addressed. Protecting the customer from potential fraud, spamming and unsolicited sales calls should be the priority of any CRM program.
Step3
Decide if you want to use an in-house CRM software consultant that is an actual employee of the company or hire an independent firm to manage all of your CRM applications. Your decision may be based upon your ability to streamline and absorb payroll expenses versus being able to protect any sensitive information, such as trade secrets, from getting to outside sources.
Step4
Use a professional recruitment company, such as Adecco, to help you find qualified candidates if you wish to make the consultant a permanent part of your team (see Resources below). These companies can significantly reduce the time and money spent on screening potential job applicants by doing all of the testing, hiring and new hire paperwork for you.
Step5
Utilize online resources such as Vendor Guru to help select the CRM software package and consultant that is the best possible fit for your company (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings

  • CRM software can be extremely large in scope, and can encompass many aspects of your business, such as maintaining customer databases, evaluating marketing campaigns and their effectiveness, generating sales leads, scheduling and managing your workforce and maintaining all service warranties and customer contracts.
