One of the nicest features of the Toon Boom 2D animation software is that you can import clipart as well as use the existing libraries. Whether it's a sketch you created yourself, a digital image or an icon you'd like to change, the file can be added to your Toon Boom library. Though the processes by which to add clipart aren't immediately obvious in the Toon Boom interface, once you've figured out the correct steps to take, adding clipart is easy.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Toon Boom software
  • Clipart

Add Clipart to a Toon Boom Project

Step1
Launch Toon Boom and begin a new project or open an existing one.
Step2
Go to the "Window" menu and highlight and click on "Library." A new window titled "Library-Animation" should appear among the other open cells.
Step3
Scroll through the library menu and click on the "+" next to "Toon Boom Templates" to expand its menu.
Step4
Locate and click on the "Clip Arts" icon. A list of .tbt files should open in the left-hand side of the "Library-Animation" window.
Step5
Double-click any of the files to preview the image in the preview box.
Step6
Choose the clipart file you would like to use and drag the corresponding .tbt file to the "Timeline" window.

Add Clipart to the Global Library

Step1
Launch Toon Boom, opening a project or creating a new one.
Step2
Make the "Library-Animation" visible by selecting it from the "Window" menu.
Step3
Find and click on "Global" to open the global library window.
Step4
Right-click on the blank frame at the right and choose "Import."
Step5
Select "Import Image File" and find the file you want to import on your computer. You can import a file from your desktop, hard disk or a removable storage device.
Step6
Highlight the file name and use the "Open" button. The clipart will then be transferred to your Toon Boom library.
Step7
Save the transferred image to the global library by going to the "File" menu and choosing the "Save Global Library" option.

Import Clipart

Step1
Begin a Toon Boom project.
Step2
Choose the "Import File" option in the "File" menu.
Step3
Locate the clipart file on your computer, click on it and hit the "Open" button.
Step4
Modify the image that appears in the "Drawing View" window to make it fit the needs of your project.
Step5
Save the file after you have modified it to keep the image as a part of your creation.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you choose the wrong file when you are importing clipart, you can use the "Ctrl-Z" shortcut to undo the import. The same thing can be accomplished by choosing the "Undo Import" option in the "Edit" menu.
