Things You'll Need:
- 8 MB of video RAM
- Graphic tablet (optional)
- 512 MB of RAM
- OS X v10.4.x
- 120 MB of free disk space
- Toon Boom software for Macs
- Monitor with a 1024 x 768 display resolution and 24-bit color depth

Step 1
Check your system to make sure that you have at least 120 MB of free disk space, the recommended 512 MB of RAM and a minimum of 8 MB of video RAM (64 MB is recommended). Your computer must also be running, or able to run, Tiger (OS X v10.4.x).

Confirm that the monitor you will be using supports a 1024 x 768 display resolution and has 24-bit color depth. These are the absolute minimum requirements needed to effectively use Toon Boom.

Consider buying a graphics tablet to connect to your computer. The image you create on the tablet surface with the stylus will be displayed on your monitor. You can then animate the image in the Toon Boom program.

Insert the Toon Boom CD into your CD drive or locate the downloaded program on your computer's hard drive.

Install Toon Boom by double-clicking on the disk image and dragging the icon to the "Applications" folder.

Complete the installation process, following the prompts of the installation wizard.

Perform a software update prior to using the program.

Double-click on the Toon Boom Studio icon to launch the program. If you prefer, you can also begin the program by selecting "Applications -> Toon Boom Studio -> Toon Boom Studio."

Choose whether or not you want to be greeted by the welcome screen every time the program is launched. The menu can be disabled by checking the "Do Not Show This Window at Startup" box.

Select "View -> Customize Toolbar" in the Toon Boom creation window. All of the available toolbar buttons will be shown in a pop-up window.

Drag the buttons you choose to the toolbar in the open project window. Click "Done."

Open the "Preferences" dialog box.

Select "Toon Boom Studio -> Preferences."

Choose the "Shortcuts" tab in the "Preferences" dialog box.

Choose a command type to assign from the "Category" drop-down menu and choose a command from the "Commands" list. Any commands that already have a shortcut will be shown in the "Current Key" box.

Use the "Click and Press New Key" option, and then hold down the keys you want to be associated with the command. The keys should appear in the "Current Key" box.
