Clip art is a great resource to enhance the visual appearance of your website while communicating your ideas with easily recognizable images and symbols. Microsoft Word offers a wide variety of clip art to insert into each page of your website and includes a helpful search feature to aid you in finding images.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Microsoft Word with clip art installed
  • MS Windows operating system

Add Clip Art Using Microsoft Word in Windows

  1. Step 1

Access Microsoft Word by opening the "Start" menu on your computer and selecting it from the program list or by double-clicking on the corresponding icon on your desktop. You will use Microsoft Word to create each page of your website, giving you the ability to use a wide variety of clip art to enhance the final product.

  2. Step 2

Click on "File" in the menu bar at the top of your screen, and then choose "New" from the menu to create a new document.

  3. Step 3

Select "Web page" from the list. If you have knowledge of XML, you may choose "XML document" instead to allow yourself to incorporate XML elements and codes into your page.

  4. Step 4

Insert any text you would like to include on the page. When you have decided where you would like to insert clip art, click on the area of the page where it should appear.

  5. Step 5

Click on "Insert" in the menu bar at the top of your screen, and then choose "Picture" from the menu. You will see "Clip Art" as one of the options. Click on "Clip Art" to open the "Clip Art" search box, which will appear on the right side of your screen.

  6. Step 6

Search for clip art by typing keywords related to the types of images you're looking for in the search box, such as "flowers" or "Christmas," and clicking on "Go." Use fewer words to broaden your results.

  7. Step 7

View the results of your search, and once you have found the image you would like to include on your page, click on it and it will be inserted into your page where your cursor is blinking.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use the "Search In" feature in the Clip Art search box of Microsoft Word to choose collections from which to pull. It's best to select "All Collections" to get as many results as possible.
  • Limit the number of clip art images you use on each page of your website. Too many images can make a page look cluttered and messy, detracting from the message you are trying to communicate.
