How to Take Down a Big Daddy in Bioshock

Apart from Bosses, the Big Daddies are the toughest opponents you'll be fighting in Bioshock. They're tough and they hit really hard, but they're not invincible. There are a few tricks you can use to both save on ammo and save your skin. Don't think you'll get away with simply avoiding them though; if you want ADAM, you have to take on Big Daddies.

Things You'll Need

• Lots of ammo, preferably Armor-Piercing bullets or Electro Buck
• Lots of Health Kits or knowledge of where some bandages are

Instructions

1. Use electricity. Electro Bolt, Electric Buck and electric juice from the chemical thrower are all highly effective against Big Daddies.

2. Freeze them. It'll keep them still for a while, and if you can hit them with enough rounds before they unfreeze, you'll be set. Just remember that they wont stay frozen forever.

3. Use wire traps and propane tanks. Both of these can be picked up with Telekinesis. Wire traps can be reset so the Big Daddy runs though them, and just use your Telekinesis to throw the propane tanks at the Big Daddy.

4. Put some terrain between you and the Big Daddy. If there's a crawlspace or staircase somewhere around, use it! Any object strong enough to stop a Big Daddy's mad rush can save your life!

5. Hypnotize them. This is only a temporary solution, but it will take the Big Daddy down a peg. Use your Hypnotize Big Daddy plasmid on them, then let them tear your enemies apart. When the Big Daddy is weakened, waste it. Also be aware that this will burn a huge chunk of your Eve, and attacking a Hypnotized Big Daddy will break the spell.

6. Use a Target Dummy. It won't last long, but it will buy you a little time to shoot the Big Daddy before he charges the real target.

Tips & Warnings

• If there is no Little Sister near a Big Daddy, follow them until they hit one of the holes in the wall (Hidey Hole). If a Little Sister comes out when the Big Daddy pounds on the wall, waste him. If nothing comes out, you've probably rescued all the Little Sisters on the level, and the Big Daddy probably isn't worth your time unless you're desperately short on cash.
