Use a powder based foundation and dust a layer over your entire eyelid. Use one like Avon Personal Match Mineral foundation because it blends well, is light, and it's buildable. Liguid foundations get cakey around the eyes and also accentuate wrinkles.

Use a dark brown eyeliner to outline the outer corner of your eye on the top and bottom. Brown is used instead of black because the black is likely to show off the bruise more.
Use a cotton swab to smudge the eyeliner to give a softer look.

Eyeshadow applied to cover black eye

Swipe a wine colored eyeshadow across your lid from the lash line to just below your brow bone. Blend. Use a highlighting color, like pearl, across your brow bone if you have it.

The wine colored hue will blend with the bruise and not draw attention to it.

This is very well explained. My husband is going to be playing football on Thanksgiving day and I'm going to tell him he has to wear make-up if he gets a black eye. lol
