If you are feeling down or blue, you are not alone. Many people feel this way at least once in their lifetimes. However, if feeling blue is affecting other parts of your life, perhaps it's time to seek out ways to feel better.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Supportive friends or a counselor

Step1
Look within and take a honest look at how you are talking to yourself.
"Feeling Good" by Dr. David Burns is a great source on this very subject. It will help you work step-by-step on bettering self talk.
Step2
Surround yourself with supportive, positive-minded friends or seek out a local support group (there are also online ones; see Yahoo Groups).
Step3
Take a look at what you have been eating/consuming.
There is a connection between what we eat/drink and how we feel. Sometimes, adding or subtracting one of the following items from our diets can better our moods significantly: sugar, salt, water
Alcohol and drugs are other things that you should limit at all costs.
Talk to a nutritionist or your family doctor if you suspect medication might be impacting how you feel.
Step4
Seek out a qualified counselor to discuss any stresses you are experiencing at the moment.
If you cannot afford a therapist, look for non-profit groups that offer
free or sliding scale sessions.

on 10/29/2007 Wonderful suggestions. Depression is such a sensitive topic. One needs a support network of friends and loved ones and self-motivation to get through it.
