How to Act on a First Date

Nervous about your first date? Follow these steps and you'll do great!

1. Always put your best foot forward.
2. Ask a lot of questions about your date. People love to talk about themselves.
   
   Where did you go to school?
   How did you get that job?
   Where was your last vacation?
   Where did you grow up?
3. Make lots of eye contact.
   
   Shifting away from eye contact gives you away as being dishonest or insecure. That's a definite turn off. Keep your eyes on the prize!
4. Dress for success.
   
   Dress sexy, but not too sexy. (if you are a man, this is especially important)
   If you have a great body, show it off, wear something form fitting.
   If your date is a beach date, dress accordingly. Same goes for the opera!
5. Remember your manners.
   
   Say please and thank you...OFTEN!
6. Smile a lot.
   
   Generally, people look better smiling. Let them know you like them too by smiling. A frown is another a serious turn off.
7. Offer to pay 1/2 the bill.
   
   Be prepared to be taken up on it too!
8. Remember the martini rule!
   
   Three martinis is too many. If you want your date to respect you, keep your wits about you.
9. At the end of the date. Say thank you and let the person know you'd like them to see you again.
   
   A kiss is acceptable at this time. Stop right there, go no further if you want them to take you seriously, otherwise you're quick to become a one night stand.

Tips & Warnings

• If you are not enjoying yourself. Cut the date short and just simply state that you don't think this is working out. And be sure to be polite about it and thank them for their time.
• Don't let a guy take you home unless you know him some how. Its just not safe otherwise.
• Don't give out your work number to anyone unless they become your serious boyfriend/girlfriend. (stalkers!!!)
• Don't accept any dates at their home until you have established a relationship. This could lead to unwanted advances and put you in a very unsafe place.
