With a few components easily obtained and a quick setup you can easily record an FM radio program to CD.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pioneer PDR-555RW or simiar model component CD recorder
  • Stereo patch cord with RCA type plugs
  • Any component tuner with RCA audio outputs or a portable FM radio with audio RCA outputs
  • Blank CDR discs FOR AUDIO NOT FOR DATA. Data discs will not work in component audio recorders.
  • An antenna if necessary
  1. Step 1

Plug in the tuner and CD recorder

  2. Step 2

Connect one end of the patch cord to audio out on the tuner.

  3. Step 3

Connect the other end to audio in on the CD recorder.

  4. Step 4

Connect the antenna to the tuner if you need one.

  5. Step 5

Load a blank CD into the CD recorder and wait a few seconds for it to spin up.

  6. Step 6

Tune in the station you want to record.

  7. Step 7

Check the recording levels before the show you are recording begins. On the Pioneer PDR-555RW this is done by pressing the record button. This puts the unit into record and pause mode simultaniously and allows you to adjust the recording level by adjusting the record level control knob and checking the led level meters on the bottom of the display. After the record level is adjusted leave the unit in record/pause mode to avoid a delay in starting recording due to spinning up of the disc.

  8. Step 8

When the program you want to record starts, simply push the pause button and the recording will begin.

  9. Step 9

When you have finished recording push stop if you are not going to record any further on this disc or push pause if you inend to record more. Pushing pause can be used also for on the fly editing such stopping the recording for commercial breaks etc.

  10. Step 10

If you want the disc to be playable in any CD player it must be finalized or finished. The Pioneer has a finalize button and counts down the finalize process on the display.

Tips & Warnings
  • The Pioneer Has a track marking feature that automatically marks tracks after a few seconds of silence or can be operated manually.
