This is my door table on the front porch...Great for Container Gardening Projects!

When I was a kid, my parents had an old door they turned into a table. They used it to lay out and paste wall paper. For some reason, I had to replicate the concept in my own way!

When I moved into my new home, there was an old door sitting against the side of the house. Now its a table!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • An old door
  • Cleaning Supplies
  • Primer
  • Paint -- Outdoor and Spray paint
  • Polyurethane
  • Stencils (optional)
  • Table Legs (Home Depot -- ask someone, its easier than searching...ask for banquet table legs)
  • Drill
  • Screws
  • Plywood (if your door is not one flat surface)
  1. Step 1

    Clean the door:

If your door came from some odd place such as an attic, junk yard, basement...clean it with a hose and soap. Let it dry.

  2. Step 2

    Prime the door:

Paint the entire door, top, bottom and edges with primer. This will give a nice clean surface to paint.
You may want to preface this step with stripping and sanding. I skipped this step.

  3. Step 3

    Paint the door:

I painted my door with a light brown color first (2 coats). I then used an old ivy lattice as a stencil for the raised areas of my door.

If you want to paint silhouettes on your door like the birds on mine, you can do a google image search for the type of shape you want. Then, use photoshop to get the image the right size. Print and cut out the shapes and outline them onto the door. Paint the shapes where ever you want them (on mine, I used the sunken panels for these).

  4. Step 4

    Seal the paint:

After all your layers of paint have dried, seal the paint with polyurethane, or whatever sealant you prefer. I painted mine with 2 coats.

  5. Step 5

    Fasten the legs:

Turn your table upside-down and attach the legs. If you don't have a flat surface to work with (see my table...), you'll want to attach a large flat piece of plywood using screws and your drill. That way your table legs will fold flat against the table, and the drill holes will be flush with a flat surface.

Turn the table back over and you're done!!
