Things You'll Need:
- screwdriver,
- an update Anti virus
-
Step 1
Go to Download.com. There will be a list of categories on the right. Click on Security and Spyware.
-
Step 2
Put in a firewall first. Click on the firewall software button.
-
Step 3
PC Tools Firewall Plus is a good firewall. ZoneAlarm also works well, too. The first time a program tries to access the internet, ZoneAlarm will alert you of it and give you the option of letting the program proceed, or block it. Comodo is also a good free firewall. It is recommended you use programs that have user ratings.
-
Step 4
Add Antivirus Software. In this case, they're usually all the same. Some popular ones are Norton Antivirus and McAfee VirusScan. Another good anti-virus software is avg Anti-virus. It works flawlessly and it is also free. It updates about once everyday and constantly monitors your computer.
-
Step 5
Install pop-up blocker software and spyware cleaners. They prevent spyware from being installed on your system. Pop-ups may contain viruses and even "call home" to log your information with other systems. They also store themselves in your temporary internet files folder and can make themselves undeletable unless you have special programs. This is why pop-up blockers are a big issue. Google's toolbar comes with one, and many newer browsers have them built in, like Mozilla's Firefox and Internet Explorer 6 & 7. For cleaning spyware off your computer, Ad-Aware SE and is a good choice. If you do not like Ad-Aware SE consider using Spybot which also works well and is free.
