Surprise your family by making a fresh GRAPE PIE! Indulging in a slice of grape pie is an easy and delicious way to add antioxidants and the super phytonutrient known as resveratrol (which is a natural cancer fighter) to your diet.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • unbaked pastry dough for a two-crust pie (See "Make Basic Piecrust," under Related eHows.)
  • 4 cups fresh red grapes (Concord grapes are best in this recipe)
  • 1 cup organic sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of milk or water
  • a blender
  • a deep dish pie plate
  • an oven

Step1
Preheat your oven to 450 F.
Step2
Remove the grapes from the stems and wash them. Place the clean grapes in a blender or food processor until the seeds are reduced to the size of raspberry seeds or less. (You don't want to remove the seeds or skins because that is where all the antioxidants and resveratrol are found!)
Step3
In a large bowl, combine the lemon juice, cornstarch, sugar and grapes. Mix well. The mixture will be very runny. Pour it into a pastry lined deep dish pie plate. Cover with top crust.
Step4
Bake your pie at 450F for 10 minutes. Remove the pie from the oven and glaze the crust with the milk or water by brushing it on. Reduce the oven temperature to 350F and bake for an additional 30 minutes. Allow the pie to cool completely before you cut it.

ENJOY!

Tips & Warnings

  • Since the grape filling is very runny before it is baked, it makes it much easier to handle your pie in and out of the oven by placing the pie plate on a cookie sheet.
