I'm not sure I really know the answer to this, but I know what I do wrong. During the holidays we spend more time socializing with friends and family. Quite often this occurs with lots of food and drinks, not to mention the special treats that we all look forward to.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You'll Need:

  • Will Power
  • Self Control
  1. Step 1

Mentally prepare yourself before the holidays start. Start reducing your food intake ahead of time.

  2. Step 2

When attending a social event, watch the intake of alcohol, this is one of the easiest ways to take in extra calories. And after drinking some it is easy to eat a little here and there with all of the hors d'oeuvres and desserts around.

  3. Step 3

Try alternating a glass of water with your beverage of choice. It is easier to keep yourself under control.

  4. Step 4

Be careful about all those special things you like to make at home. Even if you MUST make all of those special desserts and other goodies, learn to share. Spend a weekend making all of those treats, then freeze some for later and give some of them as gifts. This way you can still have your favorite treats, but there just aren't that many around.

  5. Step 5

Don't change your exercise routine. Better yet, increase the exercise or get started. Gyms get full after New Years, but have lots of room ahead of time.

  6. Step 6

Take up a winter sport or spend more time participating in a sport you already know.
