With the clone stamp tool in Adobe Photoshop, you can select part of an image you want to duplicate in another area of your image. The cloning stamp tool is especially helpful when you want to remove part of an image. Simply clone the background over the unwanted area.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Open up an image in Adobe Photoshop and select the clone stamp tool from the Photoshop toolbox. It is illustrated by a picture of a hand stamp.
Step2
On the clone stamp tool options bar, change the brush tip size or mode settings. The higher the number of brush tip, the bigger the brush tip. The mode selections offer many different options for cloning effects.
Step3
Change the "Mode" setting if you would like to change the effect of the clone stamp.
Step4
Make any changes to the opacity or flow of the clone stamp. Decreasing the opacity of your brush will make your brush more transparent while increasing the opacity will make it less transparent. The higher the flow, the more paint that will be released. The lower the flow, the less paint that will be released when you click your mouse.
Step5
Check the "Aligned" checkbox to continuously draw the cloned image even without your mouse button being pressed and check the "Use All Layers" checkbox to use the cloning information on all of your layers.
Step6
Press the ALT key on your keyboard and hold it down as you click on the point you wish to sample. Your cursor will change to your target and use the sample as a reference when you clone.
Step7
Click and drag your mouse to begin drawing your cloned image. As you draw, a cross will appear on the original image as you are revealing the cloned image.

Tips & Warnings

  • Zoom into an image when you are using the clone stamp so you can get all of the details.
  • Work with small sections of an image at a time so you can get an image that is more professional looking.
