Things You'll Need:
-
Step 1
Start a new Photoshop document or open an existing file. Select the Brush tool from the Photoshop toolbar. This is the picture of the paintbrush. The Options palette will now display the brush settings.
-
Step 2
Change the size of the brush by selecting the triangle to the right of the brush dot with the number underneath it. This will bring down the brush preset selector that will allow you to change the size of the brush. Type in the number of pixels or use the slider to change the diameter of the brush under "Master Diameter." You can also change the diameter by selecting a preset brush at the bottom of the menu. Use the scroll bar for more options.
-
Step 3
Increase or decrease the hardness of your brush by changing the number of pixels beside the word "Hardness" or using the slider to increase or decrease the pixels. Increasing the pixel for hardness will make the edges of your brush more defined.
-
Step 4
Use the "Mode" option on the Options palette to select what effect you want your brush stroke to have.
-
Step 5
Change the "Opacity" option on the Options palette to change the opacity of your brush stroke. Decreasing the opacity of your brush will make your brush more transparent while increasing the opacity will make it less transparent.
-
Step 6
Use the "Flow" option to select how much paint will come out of your brush when you use it. The higher the flow the more paint that will be released, the lower the flow the less paint that will be released when you click your mouse.
-
Step 7
Click on the "Airbrush" option to enable the airbrush setting, which is a setting that will continue to put out paint the whole time you are moving your mouse.
