Use the type tool in Adobe Photoshop to easily add text to an image or a blank document. The type tool allows you to pick a font, size and make other changes to your text so you can get a whole new look each time. Follow these easy steps to start using text in Adobe Photoshop.

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Open an existing Photoshop file or start a new one and select the type tool from the Photoshop toolbox. It is the big "T" button in the toolbox.
Step2
Change the orientation of the text by selecting the first button on the type tool options bar at the top of the screen. You can now toggle between horizontal and vertical text.
Step3
Select a font, style and text size from the type tool options bar.
Step4
Decide how you want your text to be anti-aliased by selecting either None, Sharp, Crisp, Strong or Smooth. They all have different looks, so do some experimenting to see which one best fits your document.
Step5
Select the alignment of your text by clicking either the left, center or right align button.
Step6
Click on the color square to bring up the color picker dialog box. Choose the color you would like for your text to be in from the dialog box.
Step7
Use your mouse and click somewhere in your document. Begin keying your text, using your keyboard. The text will appear with the settings that you have chosen.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the type tool to select existing text and use the type tool options bar to make changes to the text.
