1
Unplug the stove. Better yet, turn off the power to the stove. The fan is typically on the same line as the stove.
-
2
Remove the screws that attach the fan's housing to the ceiling or the stove hood. Carefully pull down the entire housing and remove the connecting wires. Remember where each wire is connected to make the reconnecting go more smoothly. Recycle the old fan with a local electronics company.

Clean the housing before installing the new fan so it will operate much better. These areas are extremely hard to reach and will collect grease. Use a heavy grease cutter and clean it a number of times until you remove the grease. Use acetone if you have a metal housing because it will cut the grease faster.

4
Employ another set of hands to hold the new fan as you connect the wires. Make sure that you are both standing on secure ladders or stools. The person helping you should be able to hold the fan still while you work.
-
5
Screw the wires down securely. Screw opposite ends of fan into housing first, then do remaining screws. Do not let go of fan until all screws are attached. Place new fan inside the housing.
-
6
Replace the housing and plug the new unit into the appropriate electric outlet.
