Things You'll Need:
- Old window frames
- Paint or varnish, depending on project
- Paint brushes
- Sandpaper
- Various hardware (hinges, nails, cup hooks)
- Decorating items (collectible items, pressed flowers, clothespins)
- Table legs
- Shelf
-
Step 1
Hinge two identical, glassless window frames together, to make a floor or table-top display for memorabilia. Attach small hooks across the tops of the frames and hang collectibles, such as: ornaments, spoons, vintage hankies or jewelry.
-
Step 2
Take a long, narrow window, with glass still intact, and add four old table legs to the corners for a beautiful, glass table. Leave it in its original faded beauty, or sand the old paint off and repaint the frame and legs. This is an especially great look for a porch, patio or garden area.
-
Step 3
Paint the frames in colorful shades to match your child's room and paint some clothespins in a contrasting color. Attach the clothespins around the outside edges of the window frame. Let your child decorate the window panes and use the clothespins to attach their original artwork.
-
Step 4
Place mirrored glass inside of old window frames, to create beautiful focal pieces for any room. Paint the frames for a more finished look, or leave them in their aged state, for a antiqued look.
-
Step 5
Create an old-fashioned country garden look from a multi-paned window by decoupaging pressed flowers onto the glass. Use a mixture of petals and whole flowers, or create an autumn look with leaves. Spray the leaves with adhesive glue, press them onto the glass panes and apply a crackled finish, to complete the look.
-
Step 6
Design a country-styled decoration for your kitchen. Purchase a shelf, cut it to the exact width of the window, and paint the shelf and the window frame the same color. Attach the shelf on the wall just above the window so it appears to be one piece, and attach mug hooks along the bottom of the frame. Use the shelf for cookbooks or decorative items and hang kitchen utensils or potholders from the cup hooks.
