There comes a time in everybody's life when they need to tap into their inner strength. This inner strength is called upon in times of need, heartache, desperation and other emotional situations. If you're having trouble tapping your inner strength, remember the following tips next time you find yourself in a tough emotional situation.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Calm yourself. When you are angry or upset, you cannot see or feel past the emotion that you are feeling at that moment. Calm yourself down through deep breathing, meditation, loud music or whatever works for you.

  2. Step 2

Get emotionally centered. Do this by reminding yourself that the moment you are experiencing does not define you and it does not define your life.

  3. Step 3

Look beyond the moment. Do this by reminding yourself that this time will pass and with the passage of time, your anger, frustrations and hardships will also pass.

  4. Step 4

Remind yourself of difficult times in the past that you successfully conquered. This will show you that you have been a strong person and will continue to be a strong person.

  5. Step 5

Stay positive. Nothing good or productive comes from pitying or feeling sorry for ourselves. Keeping a positive attitude will help you get through any tough time period of your life.

Tips & Warnings
  • Give yourself time and space. It is OK to feel angry or sad or frustrated. Allow yourself enough time to feel and experience these emotions and then move beyond them.
  • Remind yourself that what you are currently experiencing is just a moment in time and eventually, it will come to an end.
  • Get help. If you are finding it impossible to be strong, even though you have tried, consider seeking professional help.
  • Don't confuse being positive and centered with denial. Being positive and centered means that you have faced whatever it is you are going through and accepted it. Denial means that you have done neither.
