How to Share PowerPoint Presentations Online

PowerPoint has revolutionized the communication of presentations. In the past clumsy overhead projectors and transparencies were used for presentations. Not only is PowerPoint more interactive and esthetically pleasing, now it is also possible for online presentation sharing. Sharing ideas from remote locations is only a few clicks away.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Use an online site that specializes in sharing PowerPoint presentations. There are multiple sites available that allows a user to upload their PowerPoint presentations. A user simply signs up at the site and they upload the PowerPoint presentation. Then send an internet link to anyone that wants to view the presentation.
Step2
Save the PowerPoint Presentation as a web page. With PowerPoint file open, choose "File" from the main menu and then select "Save as." Now upload this file to an existing web site directory. The downside to this approach is the lack of functionality and the requirement of some web site building skills. If possible, ask the web sites developer to undertake the uploading and storing of the PowerPoint presentation.
Step3
Use a traditional file sharing site to host the PowerPoint presentation online. File sharing sites such as YouTube are great for this purpose. The drawback of this approach is these sites are not specifically designed for PowerPoint and require more effort to upload the presentation. To upload to traditional file sharing site a user needs to save the PowerPoint file as a .PNG file and export it to Windows Moviemaker. Once exported to Moviemaker the presentations are then saved as an .MPG or .mov file.

Tips & Warnings

  • Most PowerPoint and file sharing sites require a user to register with an email address. Set-up a separate email account to use for this registration, because despite their privacy assurances these sites often sell the email to junk mailers. In addition, a person does not want their business or personal email clogged with Spam email, not to mention the security concerns at work.
