3. Forward the port of the Internet router. While not necessary, this operation does make the BitTorrent client work more efficiently. Essentially a user needs to find the IP address and then login into the router management application using a web browser. The user then assigns a specific port for the BitTorrent application to use. Beware that some older or cheaper routers do not have this capability.
4. Find Internet sites that facilitate the transfer of BitTorrent files. Again there are plenty options available to download from. Some require registration to download the BitTorrent files. Be sure to check the sites legitimacy before downloading from it. Some sites are poorly managed and maintained. Downloads from these sites can contain virus and spyware.
5. Use the BitTorrent client to download the file. Once a reliable site is found, conduct a search on the site for a BitTorrent file to download. Choose the link that says "Download torrent" or something to that effect. Next, choose a location to place the file on the computer's hard drive. Normally during setup of the software, it will ask for a designated place to put all downloads.
6. Open the downloaded BitTorrent file. Sometimes, if it is a video file, it is difficult to open due to the many video formats available. A useful video software platform is VLC media player. The player plays almost every format available.
