You might make a great geography tutor if land masses, climates and maps are your thing. Use your love of geography and your knowledge of the world to help other students understand geographical terms and phrases. The following steps will help you do just that.

    Know your topic. Understand what geography means and what areas of geography the curriculum covers. Make sure your are aware of the needs of students in different grades.

    Be familiar with globes, maps, latitude, longitude, land formation, water ways, weather, climate, biomes, animals, people, population, culture, and migration. Many of these topics are covered in grade school geography.

    Empathize with the difficulties others face like memorizing lists. Some people understand the concepts but can't remember the places like capitals and bodies of water. Develop ways to help students overcome these common difficulties.

    Talk to fellow students. Tell them you tutor geography and ask them to pass your name around to those who are having difficulty. Make sure you get your name into local schools and colleges even if you don't attend there. Advertise your services.

    Speak to teachers in your area. Find out what kinds of things students have difficulty with. Offer to help with these topics. Leave your name and contact information.
