For many, the dream of winning Olympic gold may be just out of reach. Injuries, age and financial factors can all keep athletes out of the spotlight. Luckily, if you have the skill and the patience needed to be a coach, there is another option. Being an Olympic gymnastics coach may be something you want to look into. It's a difficult profession, but the payoff is worth the sacrifice.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Know gymnastics. Your knowledge of the sport should go above and beyond that of any other gymnast. You need to understand what it takes to perform every move, and exactly what a judge is looking for every moment. Experience with gymnastics competitions is important.

  2. Step 2

Learn how to teach. Being able to do a certain move and being able to teach it to someone else are two very different things. A good Olympic gymnastics coach can explain things in a way that her students can understand. An understanding of physics is a big plus here, because if you can dissect the elements needed to make a routine successful, you can teach it to others.

  3. Step 3

Be willing to critique. Depending on what level you teach, the athletes may be highly advanced, which means that you have to be ready to critique their performances to make them better. This ability comes with experience.

  4. Step 4

Dedicate yourself totally. When you become an Olympic gymnastics coach, your world revolves around the sport. You must be willing to devote yourself to the sport just as you expect your students to. If you want it badly enough, the Olympic dream could become a reality for you.
