How to Breastfeed Discreetly

In a society that's always on the go, it's not uncommon for a mom to be out and about when it's time for her baby to eat. In the past, some moms have felt like it was necessary to bottle feed the baby when you two are out in public. But now, there are options available to nursing moms so they can breastfeed discreetly.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose the right clothes. You should wear a loose fitting shirt and a nursing bra that can be unsnapped and re-snapped with one hand. Some shirts even have special slats made for nursing moms. For the time being, leave your dresses in the closet. Those make it impossible to breastfeed discreetly.

  2. Step 2

Create your own nursing shirt. If you don't have a top that's designed for a nursing baby, make one yourself. Cut slits in an old t-shirt, and wear that underneath your clothes.

  3. Step 3

Bring along a small sheet or a light blanket. You can use this to cover the baby and your breast while your baby is eating.

  4. Step 4

Carry your baby in a sling. Because of the way the sling fits, your baby will naturally be at the breast. Then, your baby can latch on without making it obvious that the child is nursing.

  5. Step 5

Practice a quick latch on. When you're at home, teach your baby how to latch on correctly the first time. Also, practice nursing while covered with a sheet or a blanket so your baby can get used to that environment. You can do this in front of a mirror so you see what other people see.

  6. Step 6

Learn your baby's cues. If you can catch your baby's hunger signs before he gets fussy, the feeding process is easier. If you wait until your baby is crying, it's likely that you'll have to leave the room to get your baby settled down enough to eat.
