We live in a society where sex sells. It's on television commercials, in movies and in magazines. It's hard to get away from the images of sexuality. That makes it even more difficult to maintain a life of abstinence. But choosing to abstain from sex is something you can do.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pick friends who have the same beliefs you do. Whether you choose to remain abstinent because of religious or other reasons, you'll be more successful if you surround yourself with people who share the same belief. You can share your temptations with each other and offer up support when you feel like caving in.

  2. Step 2

Date in groups. If you're not alone with your date, you're much less likely to give in and have sex.

  3. Step 3

Spend time around children. Having sex doesn't guarantee you'll have a child, but it does definitely increase your risk. Many times, spending time around children will remind you that you're not quite ready for such a big responsibility.

  4. Step 4

Find someone who doesn't base the relationship on sex. If you plan to have a life-long relationship with someone, the relationship should have a solid foundation. If your partner agrees to wait until marriage for sex, you know you have someone who's in it for the right reasons.

  5. Step 5

Stand firm in your beliefs. It doesn't matter if you're a virgin or not, it's your body and you have a right to say no. If you feel confident in your decision to remain abstinent, you're more likely to stick to your guns.
