How to Open a Shoe Shine Stand
Opening a shoe shine stand can be a relatively easy way to make some money. It is not easy work, but you do not need a college degree or any kind of expensive certification to do the job.

1
Find a good location. Any successful shoe shine stand needs to be in a high traffic area. It also needs to be in an area where the people are likely to be wearing shoes that need to be shined. Setting up shop in a recreation center cannot do you much good.
-
2
Strike a deal. You may be able to plant yourself on a street corner or other free location, but most likely the owner of the location requires some form of rent to use that space. Agreeing to share a portion of your earnings with the owner prevents you from making set payments you may not be able to afford if business is slow.

Buy a chair. You can shine shoes with someone sitting in a lawn chair, but it may take something more aesthetically pleasing than that to get someone to sit down and let you shine their shoes. On the other hand, you do not need a massive wooden throne to get someone to sit down either. Find, or buy, something nice to sit in. Once your business takes off, you can purchase something bigger and better.
-
4
Market your business. Make sure people know you are there. Do not just rely on people stumbling across your shoe shine stand. Post some signs around the area letting people know you are there.

Tips & Warnings
You do not have to be at your shoe shine stand all day long. The best time to open your stand is in the morning and evening when people are going to, or returning from work.
There are shoe shine companies that you can purchase a franchise from. This would be more expensive initially, but would provide all of the equipment and an air of legitimately.

We have a hotel in Palm Harbor, FL; Lake Tarpon Resort. We would like to offer our guests more services. We have a restaurant/sports bar, meeting and banquet facilities, are on the canal leading to Lake Tarpon. We have just completed our "spa" room to be used for massage. We also thought that a Shoe Shine stand in the lobby would be desirable amenity. What would be the best way for us to find a shoe shine person who wants to set up here? They would need to have all of their own equipment but we can provide the space. -

Berto; you can go online. Just buy a brush, get some rags, some canned shoe polish. Learn how to "spit shine" shoes; today, use water or spray on to get polish in deep. Smile. Many people use wooden boxes with their polish and equiptment to carry around;customers put their shoes on top of the box. -
