Seven-card Stud Hi Lo is all about making the highest and lowest five-card hand from the seven cards you are dealt. The difference between this game and Omaha Hi Lo is that the highest card you can have for the low hand is an eight. To learn how to play 7-card Stud Hi Lo, follow these steps.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place your ante. The ante is at least the minimum bet to play the hand.

  2. Step 2

Watch the dealer deal you three cards, two face down and one face up. The two face down cards are called your hole cards and you can look at them.

  3. Step 3

The player with the lowest card by suit will bet first. After the bet is made, the dealer will deal the next card face up. This is called Fourth Street.

  4. Step 4

Bet again if you have a hand worth playing and the dealer will deal you Fifth Street. The betting and dealing will continue, if you stay in the game with a good hand, until all seven cards have been dealt.

  5. Step 5

Look at your seven cards and try to make the best high hand, following the usual poker rules. If you cannot make a strong high hand, try to make the best low hand, with the highest card an eight. The pot will be split between the highest and lowest hand.

Tips & Warnings
  • You could make the best high hand and the best low hand with a straight or a straight flush made up of cards lower than eight.
