Hair dryers are an essential part of hair care, and an absolute necessity to achieve many hairstyles. Like most appliances, hair dryers need to be maintained properly or you run the risk of damaging the dryer or causing a potential hazard. Here are some tips to help you get the longest life from your hair dryer.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Unplug the hair dryer immediately after use. Electrical parts of a hair dryer are still live even when turned off.
Step2
Let it cool down, and put it away in a cabinet to discourage children from playing with it.
Step3
Be careful with the cord of the hair dryer. Always hold the hair dryer at the body, not by the cord, and never swing it around by the cord. Never wrap the cord around the hair dryer for storage. This can lead to premature cord breakage.
Step4
Check the cord and plug periodically for signs of damage. If the cord is damaged, do not use the hair dryer.
Step5
Clean the air filter periodically to keep the appliance from working too hard and possibly overheating. Unplug the dryer and extract any hair or lint that you can grab through the openings with a toothbrush or tweezers,
Step6
Keep the hair dryer away from any water sources. Do not place it near a sink or toilet, where it could fall in accidentally.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not use a hair dryer that has been dropped, damaged or come in contact with water. Return the hair dryer for repairs or replace the appliance.
  • Make sure you only use a hair dryer in an area with GFCI outlets (ground fault circuit interrupters.) All bathrooms should be equipped with these special safety outlets. If yours doesn't have them, consult an electrician.
