How to Replace Air Cleaner Ionizer Wires

If you are trying to replace the ionizer wires on your air cleaner, it is a good idea to check the instructions in your installation manual. It is a simple task that can take just a few seconds. Check the manual to find out where you can buy the replacement wires, and visit your local hardware store and let them know the model of your air cleaner so that they may find the proper ionizer wires for you.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ionizer wires for your model of air cleaner
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Screwdriver
  • Electrical contact cleaner
  1. Step 1

    Open your air cleaner to locate the ionizer wires. You may have to unscrew the top cover of your cleaner depending on your model of air cleaner.

  2. Step 2

    Unhook the old wires, and clean the contacts with contact cleaner.

  3. Step 3

    Hook the loop on an end of the new wire over the cell's spring connection.

  4. Step 4

    Use needle nosed pliers to hold the other eyelet. Stretch the new wire fully over the cell.

  5. Step 5

    Press down the other spring connector, and loop the hook over it.

  6. Step 6

    Use an ohmmeter to check to make sure there aren't any short circuits.

  7. Step 7

    Look at the cell's frame and the ionizer. Check their resistance. Also make sure the contacts are clean. If they aren't, clean them with contact cleaner. Cover the top panel of your ionizer wires, and plug in your air cleaner.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are having trouble replacing the wires yourself, you also have the option of returning your air cleaner to the manufacturer so they can assist you.
