The Kennedy Library provides an opportunity for visitors to get to know who John F. Kennedy was, both as a politician and as a person. The museum has unique displays that make the 1960s accessible to all. Using narrative recordings of JFK's own voice, paired with authentic Kennedy memorabilia, the library's exhibits come to life.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Visit the library any time from 9 to 5. The library is open daily and closes only for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. The library sits on a 9.5-acre park that overlooks the Boston waterfront. From May through October, Kennedy's sailboat "Victura" is docked outside the museum. The beautiful view and landscaped acres that look like JFK's beloved Cape Cod make this a fabulous place to visit in warmer weather. Be sure to spend some time outside the museum taking in the views.
Step2
Call the library at (866) 535-1960 or (617) 514-1600 with general questions. To schedule time in the research room of the library, call (617) 514-1629. Keep in mind that the research room is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and is closed on weekends and federal holidays.
Step3
Drive or take public transportation to the Kennedy Library at Columbia Point. You can use the MBTA's red line, which has a JFK Library stop. From there, catch a shuttle bus that runs from the "T" to the library every 20 minutes. If you decide to brave Boston traffic, you'll be pleased to know that parking at the Kennedy Library is free to visitors.
Step4
Pay for admission inside the library. Admission for adults is $10; students, seniors over 67 and teens 17 and under receive a discount, and 12 and under are free. Also, the Kennedy Library welcomes group tours. Group rates are available; call for details. Students K-12 in New England are eligible for free tours.
Step5
Pack light. The library doesn't have a bag or coat check, so you can bring your backpack into the museum. If you've packed a picnic lunch to enjoy outside the museum, eat first to make your time with the exhibits a bit easier.
Step6
Catch a bite to eat inside the Kennedy Library if you prefer. A cafe is open and provides light fare during the library's hours of operation.
Step7
Take the virtual tour online if you can't get to the library itself. You'll see several of the museum's highlights, including clips from the introductory film, Jacqueline Kennedy's dress, displays of JFK's campaign, his debate with Nixon and the Oval Office.
