How to Personalize a School Uniform

The purpose of school uniforms is homogeneity. Uniforms take the emphasis off personal expression and put it on education, according to many school administrators. 1. Wear an unusual combination. Instead of wearing your button-down shirt with the blazer like everyone else, try one of the polo shirts under the blazer. Using varying combinations of school-sanctioned uniform parts, you can develop a look that's slightly different and all your own.

2. Add a piece of jewelry. One item that is really you, a pin, tie tack or necklace, can be worn discreetly with your uniform. By wearing the same item every day, it will become your own uniform and a symbol of your personality.

3. Say it with shoes. School uniforms often leave the shoes to the discretion of the individual, within reason, so you can express your personality by choosing different shoes. Wear boots with your skirt or shoes that are a stand-out color. Wear the same pair of shoes each day and they'll become your signature look.

4. Keep it under cover. Wearing unique or outlandish undergarments doesn't express your personality to the world, but it can make you feel different. When you feel different, you act different. Bright red panties or men's boxer shorts under your uniform will remind you that you're an individual in a sea of uniformed students.
