How to Block 900 Numbers

While 900 numbers aren't quite the menace they used to be, many hot lines still use them. Whether you find yourself uncontrollably dialing those three expensive digits in the wee hours, or if you have a child who does the same, blocking 900 number phone calls from your phone can save you a lot of money.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine what your telephone number is and your service provider or carrier. The name of your carrier should appear on your bills, along with a number at which they can be reached.

    • 2

Call your telephone service provider customer help line and ask them to block outgoing 900 number phone calls from your phone.

    • 3

Ensure that all of your phones are blocked. If you have more than one telephone line, such as a fax line or a dial-up exclusive telephone line, ask that your provider to block that line for 900 numbers also.

    • 4

Make sure that both long distance and local 900 numbers are blocked. If your long distance carrier is different than your local carrier, then you should also call your long distance carrier and have them block 900 numbers from your phones.

Tips & Warnings

  • For whatever reason, if you do find yourself in a situation where you need to call a 900 number, you will not be able to make the call unless you remove the block by calling your telephone carrier and ask them to allow 900 number calls. If you do want your block to be reinstated you will have to call them again and ask them to put it back on.
