How to Promote a Farmer's Market
Farmer's markets have become a staple in many communities across the country. As people tend toward more organic and truly fresh fruits and vegetables, the pull is strong to forgo the major chain stores and find the farmer's markets in nearby areas. But if you own such a market and you want to be found, you need to promote your service and your location.

1
Design your strategy around the niche where you live and sell your product. Your farmer's market needs to appeal to the people in the local area, while reaching beyond to pull in those from further away. Think about what specific products people tend to need and promote your market with an emphasis on those.

2
Take advantage of public broadcasting possibilities. Many communities have a channel dedicated to local cable access and they provide often free advertising service for such community-enhancing events.

3
Make sure to have a weekly ad running in your local penny saver or shopper magazine, as well as in the local newspaper. This, of course, will depend on your budget, but the advantage of working to promote your farmer's market to the largest audience possible will reap better dividends in profits.

4
Advertise along thematic lines, just as the major stores do. For Halloween, for example, plan to have an abundance of corn, "Indian" corn and pumpkins available to sell. In early summer, have plenty of corn on the cob and fresh fruits. Launch a campaign around holidays or community events, such as "heritage days."

5
Be outgoing and talk with people in the community about your market. Invite them to stop by. Talk with newspaper editors and owners of radio stations. The more people you can talk with who have multiple connections and contacts within the community, the more you can promote awareness of your business.
