Go Sooners!

Every year the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns meet in Dallas to decide who has the better football team. The Red River Shootout is one of the top rivalries in college football, but buying tickets--affordable tickets, that is--can be harder than you'd think.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Buy early. If you're lucky enough to get tickets as soon as they go on sale, you may be able to get a good deal. There are very few of these tickets available, though, so have a backup plan. Think scalpers or eBay.

  2. Step 2

Purchase late. On the day of the game, go to the stadium and ask around. If you wait until just before or after kickoff, you are likely to find someone who wants to unload tickets.

  3. Step 3

Compare prices online. Websites like StubHub and Ticket City sell tickets to the Red River Shootout and provide the added bonus of being able to compare prices.

  4. Step 4

Get in the correct section. The stadium at the Red River Shootout is divided into Texas fans on one half and Sooners fans on the other. Get tickets where you will sit with other fans of your team.

  5. Step 5

Be brave. If you can't sit with fans from your own team, buy the tickets anyway. You might hear a few negative comments, but seeing the Red River Shootout is worth it.

Tips & Warnings
  • The Red River Shootout is also known as the Red River Rivalry.
  • The Texas/Oklahoma game is a rivalry that's been brewing for over 100 years. In fact, the teams played before Oklahoma was even declared a state. In the early 1900s the game was moved to the Cotton Bowl in Dallas and has been played there ever since.
  • The Texas State Fair surrounds the Red River Shootout. If you can't get tickets to the game, enjoy the fair activities surrounding the stadium.
  • It's illegal to sell tickets if you're not part of a ticket agency, but in theory it's not illegal to buy tickets. Nevertheless, exercise caution when getting tickets to the Red River Shootout.
