Over the years, the mining industry has made improvements that have made a miner's job easier. Many mining companies use newer and safer techniques in mines, making better conditions for miners, and if you like working in small confined spaces, then becoming a miner is the right career for you.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Research the dangers of becoming a miner. There are many dangers in a mine and you must familiarize yourself with them. Know safety procedures and what to do in case of an emergency. This will help you take the proper precautions to ensure your safety while working in a mine.
Step2
Conduct a job search. There are several online search engines that you can use to find a vacant mining position. Also, visit different mining company websites, where they often post job vacancies. Be aware that people who have little to no experience start out as helpers in a mine. You can move up in the company once you have the experience.
Step3
Meet the minimum requirements. The requirements will vary from company to company, but typically companies want a person that has graduated from a high school vocational school with mining training. With the development of newer equipment companies want people that have some knowledge of the industry. Also, a person needs to be in good physical condition and be able to withstand the conditions of a mine.
Step4
Apply when you have finished your research and have found a job that interests you. Be sure to include any relevant experience, training and education.
Step5
Acquire any training needed. The mining company that hires you will give you all the training that you need. However, if you want to work with mining equipment it would be wise to get certification in that equipment. This will give you an advantage over others who are trying to become miners as well.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once you become a miner, think about joining a union.
