Choosing a life partner takes time and careful consideration. Some people think their perfect partner is their best friend. Best friends have already established the foundation of a successful marriage through trust, communication and respect. These qualities tighten the friendship and develop the confidence needed to share the deepest, darkest secrets without being judgmental. If you want to marry your best friend remember a few helpful tips.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Find a new friend. Now that you've married your best friend you'll need someone else to talk to during hard times that are on the outside. Choose a friend that will be non-threatening in your new relationship. For example, if your best friend was a male and you married him, maybe a female friend would cause less conflict.
Step2
Keep secrets safe. The secrets shared when the relationship was as best friends were told in trust and confidence. Don't violate the trust and tell your new friend the old secrets kept between you and your spouse.
Step3
Communicate always. The communication is different between lovers than it is with best friends. Learn the language of love and talk openly in this respect. It may seem weird at first to be saying passionate things to your best friend but you'll get used to it.
Step4
Do what attracted you both in the first place. Whatever it was that brought you together is important to sustain. Just because the dynamics have changed doesn't mean everything has. There was something about the friendship that kept you both so close so don't lose whatever it was. If you both loved the trails, don't tell your spouse to go for a hike without you.
Step5
Change some things. Mix it up. Bring something new into the marriage. Add that spark to keep the flame burning bright. On one level the relationship is old hat but on another it is fresh and new.
Step6
Be romantic but still friendly. Buy best friend cards as well as lover cards. It is good to receive a best friend card to reaffirm that part of the relationship but it is especially nice to get an "I Love You" card from your spouse. Both elements are crucial to the relationship so show appreciation for both.
Step7
Work hard at your marriage relationship. It is harder to keep a marriage alive and thriving then a friendship. You'll have to work everyday to grow and develop a deep bond and intimacy between you. Keep building off of that friendship. Reach for marital bliss and you'll be best friends and lovers forever.
