How to Apply Veneers to Concrete Slabs

A plain concrete slab on your patio isn't exciting and doesn't give a finished look. Applying a veneer brick or other veneer product to your patio is much better. This will not only give you a sense of accomplishment because you can do this project yourself, but it will help complete your backyard and give it an upgraded look for a minimal cost.

Things You’ll Need:

• Veneer material
• Level
• Measuring tape
• Self leveling floating product
• Adhesive

1. Figure out square footage of materials needed for this do-it-yourself project. Decide on the kind of veneer you want to use. If using brick, you will need to decide on the installation pattern.
2. Remove any existing veneers that may exist and clean concrete to a finish.
3. Level the area where application is desired. Add a self-leveling float product if there is a discrepancy in the level of the concrete. Allow this product to dry for at least 48 hours.
4. Apply a waterproof membrane and follow the manufacturer's specifications for drying time and coverage.
5. Measure reference lines to ensure that area is square to existing walls.
6. Put on adhesive product per manufacturer's specifications to area.
7. Place desired veneer that has been purchased for this project. Continue to apply the veneer until project is complete.
