A plain concrete slab on your patio isn't exciting and doesn't give a finished look. Applying a veneer brick or other veneer product to your patio is much better. This will not only give you a sense of accomplishment because you can do this project yourself, but it will help complete your backyard and give it an upgraded look for a minimal cost.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Veneer material
  • Level
  • Measuring tape
  • Self leveling floating product
  • Adhesive
Step1
Figure out square footage of materials needed for this do-it-yourself project. Decide on the kind of veneer you want to use. If using brick, you will need to decide on the installation pattern.
Step2
Remove any existing veneers that may exist and clean concrete to a finish.
Step3
Level the area where application is desired. Add a self-leveling float product if there is a discrepancy in the level of the concrete. Allow this product to dry for at least 48 hours.
Step4
Apply a waterproof membrane and follow the manufacturer's specifications for drying time and coverage.
Step5
Measure reference lines to ensure that area is square to existing walls.
Step6
Put on adhesive product per manufacturer's specifications to area.
Step7
Place desired veneer that has been purchased for this project. Continue to apply the veneer until project is complete.

Tips & Warnings

  • Purchase extra veneer material to cover mistakes and breakages that may occur during application.
