An irrigation system for your patio is actually a small network of tubing that drives water to hoses that you place at the base of plants or around a group of plants. The irrigation system can be a great convenience once you have it in place to keep the plants on your patio looking great.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Rubber tubing
  • Screw adapters for tubing
  • Water faucet
  • Tubing valve
  • Tube clamps
  • Timer (optional)

Step1
Unravel your tubing that you are using for your irrigation system, and let it sit in the sun to soften. Then screw the tubing onto the water faucet per the instructions that come with your patio irrigation system manufacturer information.
Step2
Mount the wiring from each valve at a spot that's convenient for you, yet is somewhat hidden. You can try to hide the valves and the wiring so they can't be seen by people sitting on your patio. Connect the valves to the water supply line as needed.
Step3
Run your tubing through your patio area as needed. Use connecting tubes to connect multiple tubes to your irrigation system. Run your tubes covertly throughout your patio, and secure the tubing with clamps to keep them in place.
Step4
Install branch lines to the main supply line so that each branch line is securely attached and has water coming into it. Secure each branch line in place with clamps.
Step5
Run each of the branch lines to each of the plants on your patio or to each cluster of plants. Secure each branch line in place so it won't move but will appropriately water your plants. Secure each branch in place with clamps.
Step6
Check your irrigation system for kinks in your tubing. If there are any kinks in your irrigation system, your line won't drive the water to your plants.
Step7
Turn on your system, and let it run for a few minutes to flush out anything that's in your tubing and to make sure your irrigation system works properly. Check your system for leaks. Set a timer if you have it on your irrigation system so that it automatically turns on for a set period of time each day.
